"Idleness is not just a vacation, an indulgence, or a vice — it is as indispensable to the brain as vitamin D is to the body..."

— Tim Kreider, essayist, The New York Times

A week-long, international gathering for mid-career artists and cultural workers seeking rest, rejuvenation, community, and inspiration.

ASH is a test ground to nurture ourselves, each other, and our work, without any actionable metrics tied to the process. The process itself is life-affirming and nurturing. We practice what we wish to see in the world including; collaboration, connectivity, sustainability, healing, justice, joy, wholeness, and belonging.

ASH provides thoughtfully crafted time and space to recharge and thrive.

“ASH shifted my understanding of the vitality and nourishment that is possible while on retreat. Emily‘s thoughtful preparation and care for every detail—from travel to excursions to meals to the creature comforts that allow true restoration to happen— curated an experience that allowed clarity and creativity to reign. I am grateful for the lesson in how deeply transformative it is to make myself the priority. ASH gave me the space and time to complete the first draft of my debut book, Your Embodied Life: A Field Guide to Joy. I will carry the friendships, connections, and memories made that week with me forever!”
